The Great Gatsby Wedding!

The Great Gatsby Bridal dressThe Great Gatsby 2013 film has taken the wedding world's imagination by storm. The novel by American author F.Scott Fitzgerald, is based in Long Island in 1922 during the Roaring Twenties, in the hayday of the flapper culture, the evolution of jazz music & ecomonic prosperity and in turn criminal activity.

Often films provide inspiration for weddings, such as Alice in Wonderland, which was the inspiration for many a mad hatter tea party styled wedding over the past 18 months. The Great Gatsby is the next big thing and no wonder with the elegance, the beautiful flapper style dresses embelished in jewels & sense of romance the 1920s bring.

We were lucky enough to style a photo shoot at The Vermont, Newcastle to launch their new roof top ceremony room & terrace over looking the city. When first approached by The Vermont to do the shoot it was a blank canvas and they looking for inspiration from us. We thought that the Gatsby wedding theme would fit in perfectly with the look of The Vermont and that it looks like a building straight from the 1920s Manhattan skyline. The Vermont embraced our ideas and the rest was history.

Styling this shoot was great fun and loved every minute of styling the venue as well as the models in gorgeous flapper styled dresses.

Here are the photos of the shoot and a few other styling ideas of colours, flowers, how to dress your wedding chairs & tables for the perfect 1920s Gatsby styled wedding.

Thanks for Scott Spock Photography for the use of the fabulous photographs.

The Great Gatsby Wedding Styling Ideas

Introducing a strong theme into your wedding can be great fun and really give the WOW factor if done correctly. Here are some suggestions on how to create a 1920s styled Great Gatsby wedding with a 2013 twist!

The Finishing Touch Company always looks at the colour palette first, we suggest, soft pastels, ivory, pearls and of course an essence of bling.  Introduce these into not only the room decorations, but also the bride & bridesmaid's dresses. Your wedding table decorations need to work with the room that you will be holding your wedding breakfast in. Look at the bare room and think of the best way to incorporate the look, The Finishing Touch Company helps it's clients to create a wedding style so please contact us if you would like to talk about styling your own Gatsby wedding!

The Great Gatsby wedding hairHave fun with the sparkling flapper style dresses & gorgeous head pieces for extra glamour with a few tassles thrown into the mix!  The clean crisp look of a well tailored tuxedo will fit perfectly for the groom &  groomsmen.

All of the dressses we featured in this shoot were all from the highstreet   and were reasonably priced, style doesn't have to cost a fortune!

How about introducting gold warm tones to your wedding table centre pieces to compliment the pastel shades? The vases you use for flowers can really change the look and feel of your wedding breakfast table. Look how glamourous these candles sticks are. They can also be used to hold flowers in too... How about using a mixture of beatuiful blooms with pastel coloured candles?

Flowers are beautiful way of incorporating colour to any wedding. Your florist will be able to guide you to which flowers are in season and which will best fit into your wedding colour scheme. We used soft ivory tones along with the peach tones of the Miss Piggy Rose, arranged in cut glass vases & rose bowls, draped with pearls.

The fabrics you use are really important to give the right feel and look. The Finishing Touch Company suggests to use luxurious lace with materials like taffeta on your wedding chairs. How about using black lace with an oyster pink taffeta bow or a full lace chair dressing with complimenting taffeta bow.

Using different materials on the tables can really set your wedding apart from the rest, why not use champagne coloured taffeta cloths instead of a boring white cotton table cloths? Gold charger plates finish off the style nicely.
